I started out the race feeling a little unsure how it would go for me. I had taken two whole weeks off prior to try to let my hip settle down. When I started the race I could feel my hip just a little but it wasn't really too bad.

I crossed the 10K mark about two minutes off where I was hoping but part of that was due to trying to take it easy because of the temps. I was feeling pretty good for a few more miles. At mile ten or eleven my hip really started giving me trouble. It was making it really hard for me to reach with that left leg so my form started to go quickly. I was having to really favor that side to keep it from hurting too bad. A couple more miles of running like that and I was really feeling it in places I had never gotten sore before. The very bottom of my quads and my calves became very sore by mile 17 or 18 and my pace was slipping badly.

I seen Alana and Rocky right after the 30K mark and I wasn't sure I could even finish. I was in more pain for the last eight miles than I have ever run in before. It took a little walking at times and when I was running I was moving at about a 11:30 pace. I just could not force anything at that point and it was all I had to get to the finish. A very emotional roller coaster for me in Boston. The experience of being at Boston was awesome and to be part of that was amazing. I just wish I could have felt better, but at least I got to go finish.

When we arrived back home I went directly to Dr. Huntsman who examined and x-rayed my hip, and diagnosed it with hip flexor tendonitis. Looks like I'll be taking more time off now.

Mon, 16 Apr 2012 06:00:00 Tue, Apr 03, 2012 http://curt.fastrunningblog.com/blog-04-03-2012.html My IT band is still painful to even walk so I decided to get alternative cardio today before I loose my mind. I hit the gym at 4:30 and swam laps. I swam for about a half hour and don't have any idea how far I went. I guess all that matters is I felt winded so mission accomplished. It felt good to get some form of exercise and I'm thinking for the next few days that might be the way to go. I don't think I should run again before Boston because if this flares up too close I'm worried about it being sore to start. Just trying to trust that this will be OK in time. Tue, 03 Apr 2012 06:00:00 Sat, Mar 31, 2012 http://curt.fastrunningblog.com/blog-03-31-2012.html Met Jeff, Cache, and Craig out this morning for a run. We ran through SRL up around the river, where Craig and Jeff split off to do Freeman, and back for eleven miles. My hip was a little sore the whole time but definitely not something I couldn't run with, so as long as it doesn't get worse I think I'll be fine. I do feel a big sense of relief getting through today's run. Now I will just be very cautious with it and maybe work a little spinning in this next week and see if I can't get it feeling better. What a beautiful morning for a run with good friends. Sat, 31 Mar 2012 06:00:00 Wed, Mar 28, 2012 http://curt.fastrunningblog.com/blog-03-28-2012.html Headed out this morning for my first run since Saturday. I ran eight miles and my hip felt pretty good while running. I was very aware of it the whole run but it wasn't too bad. It seems to tighten up and get worse as the day goes on after I run, so the next 24 hours will say a lot.Just hoping I can get a decent taper week in this week without aggravating it too bad. Wed, 28 Mar 2012 06:00:00 Sat, Mar 24, 2012 http://curt.fastrunningblog.com/blog-03-24-2012.html Had an interesting last twenty mile run before Boston. I ran three miles to the local 10k, and then raced the 10k (39:22 1st overall). After I gathered myself for a while I finished off the twenty with eleven more. I felt good about being able to finish the twenty after running that hard in the middle of it. I'm exhausted now but very happy with the run today. Sat, 24 Mar 2012 06:00:00 Thu, Mar 22, 2012 http://curt.fastrunningblog.com/blog-03-22-2012.html Headed out early with Jeff again this morning. We headed down through SRL again and ran into Marlin down there. Marlin joined us for a couple miles and then turned around to continue his run. We ended up running a little faster pace today than yesterday but it felt much easier for me today. We finished the ten miles in right at 1:12 for a 7:11 average. I felt like I had better energy this morning and my legs felt a lot lighter. Thu, 22 Mar 2012 06:00:00 Wed, Mar 21, 2012 http://curt.fastrunningblog.com/blog-03-21-2012.html I met Jeff out this morning for a run. We headed down through SRL and back at a pretty good pace. When Jeff headed home I continued up Sunnyside to get one more mile in. That last mile and a half I will call a cool down but I think it actually was more like Jeff wore me out and I couldn't go any faster:) Overall average pace was a 7:15 for me which is not bad considering the first mile and last two were around a 7:30. It's hard to push yourself at 4:30 in the morning so it's nice to have someone out there that makes you do it. Thanks for the run Jeff. Wed, 21 Mar 2012 06:00:00 Tue, Mar 20, 2012 http://curt.fastrunningblog.com/blog-03-20-2012.html Headed out early on a chilly morning. Just ran a nice comfortable pace for ten miles. I felt really good and it was just one of those nice peaceful runs. Seen Andrea out but other than that it was pretty quiet this morning out there. Tue, 20 Mar 2012 06:00:00 Sat, Mar 17, 2012 http://curt.fastrunningblog.com/blog-03-17-2012.html Headed up to Bone again this weekend for the long run. We had a great group today as Jeff, Lynette, Cache, Gary, Marlin, Alana, Alisa, Lyndsi, and Mauri were all up there. The temperature was awesome but the wind was fierce. We ran eight miles directly into about a 30 mph head wind, which was so hard on those hills. Coming back the wind definitely helped but by then we were all already fatigued. What a great training run though with really great people. I'm sure I'll be feeling this one for a day or two. Sat, 17 Mar 2012 06:00:00 Fri, Mar 16, 2012 http://curt.fastrunningblog.com/blog-03-16-2012.html Headed out this morning in warm weather. The temperature was perfect and no wind. I just ran another eight miles and it's a good thing it was only eight as I just felt like I had zero energy today. I think it's probably a combination of bad fuel yesterday and a slight cold coming on. Just one of those mornings I guess. Fri, 16 Mar 2012 06:00:00
